Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has announced that a major road in Duki will be named after Dr Mahnoor Nasir, a doctor who survived an acid attack earlier this year.
The decision was taken in recognition of Dr Mahnoor’s “bravery, resilience and services as a medical professional”, according to a notification shared by the chief minister on Sunday.
The 29-year-old doctor, who serves at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, suffered extensive burns to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body after a hospital employee allegedly threw acid at her in June.
The provincial government has renamed Haji Amanullah Masjid Road near Damani Chowk in Duki as Dr Mahnoor Nasar Road, with immediate effect.
In a post on X, CM Bugti praised Dr Mahnoor’s courage, resilience and commitment to her profession, saying her determination was an example for the women of Balochistan.
Police had identified the alleged attacker as Humayun Shah, a hospital employee. He was later killed in an encounter after law enforcement officials traced him while he was reportedly attempting to flee.
The acid attack had sparked widespread condemnation, including protests by doctors in Quetta who demanded a transparent investigation and stronger protection for medical staff.
