The Senate of Pakistan has successfully passed a bill aimed at enhancing the salaries and benefits of parliamentarians, achieving a majority vote despite dissent from certain members.

The session, presided over by Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan, featured the presentation of the Parliamentarians’ Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025 by Senator Danesh Kumar.

Although the bill was initially passed unanimously, objections from some members necessitated a formal vote, which ultimately resulted in its approval.

During the proceedings, Syedal Khan instructed that the names of those opposing the bill be officially recorded.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar advocated for the salary increase, asserting that any member who disagreed with the raise should provide a written statement to that effect.

He urged lawmakers to refrain from politicizing the issue, highlighting that similar actions had been implemented at the provincial level. His comments incited significant protests from the opposition, prompting the deputy chairman to step in and restore order.
