Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for peace in the Middle East and solidarity with the people of Palestine as he met global leaders, including United States President Donald Trump, during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt on Monday.
The summit, co-hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Trump, brought together leaders from over 20 countries to mark the signing of a peace agreement aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. The accord follows a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas last week — the first phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan, brokered with the support of several Muslim nations.
During his meeting with President Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the American leader’s mediation efforts, calling his peace plan a “crucial step towards lasting peace in the Middle East.” He expressed gratitude to both Trump and Sisi for their “outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment” to achieving a breakthrough in Gaza.
“Pakistan’s position is rooted in justice and humanity,” the premier said, reaffirming Islamabad’s diplomatic and moral support for the Palestinian cause. He added that Pakistan would continue to back all peaceful initiatives ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Shehbaz also held meetings with other world leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who thanked Pakistan for its consistent support, as well as King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, UN Secretary General António Guterres, and European and Middle Eastern leaders.
