Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has claimed that "within the next 30 to 40 years, Tharparkar will be bigger than Karachi".

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Shah said that as Karachi progressed in the last 30 to 40 years, Tharparkar would also progress.

He added that we have started many programs in the area, including cheaper electricity provision projects. Shah added that the Sindh government would be able to distribute cheaper electricity to the locals.

CM Murad revealed that Thar coal power plants are currently generating over 3,000 megawatts of electricity, which is supplied to the national grid and later to Faisalabad.

He noted, however, that this electricity is not being supplied directly to Sindh.

"Thar coal could generate cheaper electricity for Pakistan, creating jobs and increasing exports with industries powered by it," he added.

The Sindh chief minister also called for a comprehensive restructuring of the power sector to fully leverage the potential of Thar coal.

The Sindh government is establishing the Thar Institute of Science and Technology with the affiliation of NED University Karachi.
