Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Friday extended the province’s ongoing teachers recruitment phase until June 30, 2025.
The decision was announced at the annual review meeting of the Sindh School Education Department held at the Sindh Assembly Auditorium.
During the meeting, the minister also addressed issues related to salary delays, database updates for newly recruited teachers, and the dismissal of permanently absent staff.
Officials revealed that offer letters had been issued to 78,441 candidates who passed the IBA test, with 55,566 for Primary School Teachers (PST) and 22,875 for Junior Elementary School Teachers (JEST).
Appointment orders have been released for 75,646 candidates, and 73,994 teachers have joined their posts. However, approximately 10,366 candidates opted for other jobs after initially securing positions or by succeeding in the Sindh Public Service Commission exams.
Presently, 63,628 teachers are actively employed, while many more remain on waiting lists across districts.

Minister Shah attributed the recruitment delays to factors including the caretaker government, flood-related challenges, and other logistical issues.
He emphasised the need for education officials to implement policies with sincerity and warned that around 5,000 teachers absent without leave would receive a final 15-day notice before dismissal.
The meeting also reviewed textbook availability and the book bank initiative, holding headmasters accountable for returning at least 50% of textbooks by the academic year’s end.
