The Sindh government has announced that all schools will remain closed on August 15 (20th Safar 1447 AH) in observance of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
A notification issued on Friday stated that all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department will remain closed on that day.
This decision was originally made in a meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Steering Committee last year, which stated that the directive would apply to all schools and educational institutes across the province.

A rare extended holiday break is expected this year, as August 14 (Pakistan's Independence Day) coincides with the upcoming Chehlum holiday.
Since provincial governments have the authority to declare Chehlum a public holiday, this could lead to a longer break in several parts of Sindh.
In a related development, the Sindh School Education Department has also announced an extension of summer vacations until August 15 for all public and private schools in the province. The earlier reopening date was August 14, but this move has pushed it further.
However, it is worth noting that some schools had already resumed classes after concluding their summer break on July 31, prior to this latest announcement.
