Sindh govt orders crackdown on public transport vehicles operating without valid route permits, fitness certificates

The Government of Sindh has ordered a crackdown on public transport vehicles operating without valid route permits and fitness certificates across the province.

In a statement, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said formal instructions had been issued to deputy commissioners and chairmen of District Regional Transport Authorities (DRTAs) to take action in this regard.

He noted that many vehicles are currently running with expired documentation, directing authorities to ensure that only those meeting requirements under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 and Motor Vehicles Rules 1969 are allowed on the roads.

Memon said the government has introduced a digital system for issuing route permits and fitness certificates. He added that fitness certificates are now being issued entirely online, while permits for both inter-district and urban routes are being processed through an automated system, with manual permits set to be phased out.

He also said the government is providing subsidies to transporters but has made it clear that fares should remain at pre-February 27, 2026 levels. Despite this, complaints have been received about overcharging.

The minister directed officials to launch a special inspection drive, take immediate action against non-compliant vehicles, and ensure that fare lists are clearly displayed inside public transport so passengers are aware of the rates.

He added that strict enforcement has also been ordered on the ban of CNG and LPG use in school vans and inter-district public transport, reiterating that no vehicle should be allowed to operate without complete documentation.
