Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday expressed deep regret over the tragic building collapse in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, which claimed 27 lives. He assured the public that the government stands with the victims and their families in this time of grief.

Addressing a press conference on the incident, Memon announced the removal of the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). He noted that the DG had been in office since 2022, when the collapsed structure had already been declared dilapidated.

In addition, all SBCA officials posted in the Baghdadi area of Lyari were immediately terminated in the aftermath of the collapse.

The minister also pledged a transparent investigation into the incident through a fact-finding committee, ensuring that all those responsible for negligence or misconduct would be held accountable.

Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed that there are 740 dangerous buildings across Sindh.

The multi-storey building, previously deemed structurally unsafe, collapsed last Friday, resulting in 27 casualties and leaving many others inj*red and displaced.

Speaking at a press conference, Sindh Minister for Local Government, Saeed Ghani, stated that 51 buildings in Karachi are in an extremely dilapidated state.

He has directed the Commissioner Karachi to provide details on the number of units and residents in these buildings within 24 hours, to facilitate their demolition.

Ghani further added that 588 buildings in Karachi previously declared dangerous will be reviewed. This assessment aims to determine which structures require immediate demolition and which can be repaired.

He urged the public to verify project approvals before booking any flat or plot.
