Sindh proposed to provide free electricity to consumers using 300 units

The Sindh government is all set to present a provincial financial budget in line with their election manifesto, which promised to provide subsidies, especially on electricity.
Sources said the provincial government was mulling the recommendation of providing free electricity on up to 300 units and allocating a sufficient amount to supply purified water.
The development came at a time when members of the Sindh Assembly were raising their voices against Karachi's single electricity provider K-Electric, during unannounced power shutdown, and highly inflated bills.
According to the sources, the Sindh government will present a Rs2.3 trillion budget on Friday.
The officials recommended allocating over Rs257 billion for development work.
As per the sources, it was also recommended to the government to complete under-developing projects soon and introduce a new scheme under public-private partnership.
Apart from this, the provincial cabinet was also deliberating on imposing new taxes and providing subsidised electricity.
Earlier on Thursday, Sindh Minister for Power and Energy, Nasir Hussain Shah, that the government plans to offer free electricity to consumers using up to 100 units.
Shah explained that free units will be provided from solar parks and mini-grid stations, which will be installed soon.
To provide relief to power consumers, the provincial government is mulling allocating Rs5 billion for solar energy production.
The Sindh minister had also announced plans to provide solar panels at discounted prices for poor and middle-class employees in the upcoming budget, with 200,000 solar panels to be provided at discounted prices.
