Suspect killed in encounter after acid attack on lady doctor in Quetta

A postgraduate female doctor was critically injured after an unidentified assailant threw acid on her while she was on duty at the surgical ward of Civil Sandeman Hospital, Balochistan’s largest public healthcare facility, police and hospital sources said on Sunday.

According to police officials, the attack took place inside the hospital premises during duty hours when the suspect approached the doctor and threw acid at her before fleeing the scene.

The doctor sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately shifted to the intensive care unit, where she remains in critical condition.

Following the incident, police launched a search operation in the surrounding area. Authorities later said the suspect was traced and killed in an exchange of fire with police during the operation.

Police have not yet released the identity of the attacker and said investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack.
