Teefi Butt shot dead in Punjab CCD 'encounter' day after being extradited from Dubai

CCD says it was en route to Lahore by road when the encounter took place in Rahim Yar Khan

The main suspect in the Ameer Balaj murder case, Khawaja Tareef Gulshan alias Teefi Butt, was shot dead in an alleged police encounter, the Punjab Crime Control Department (CCD) said on Saturday.

According to the CCD, the encounter occurred in Kot Sabzal, a town in Rahim Yar Khan district, just a day after Teefi Butt was brought back to Pakistan following his extradition from Dubai.

In a press release, the CCD said that it obtained custody of the proclaimed offender, Teefi Butt, from the Karachi airport and departed for Lahore by road.

"When the CCD team reached near Sanjarpur, District Rahim Yar Khan in the wee hours of 11th October, a number of armed assailants intercepted the CCD vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire," the press release read.

"During the exchange of fire, a CCD officer sustained serious bullet injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital. The assailants freed the arrested accused person from CCD custody and escaped."

The CCD said that local police was notified about the incident and their immediate assistance was sought.

"At around 0500 hrs, the Rahim Yar Khan CCD team spotted two suspicious vehicles and tried to intercept them. A heavy exchange of gunfire ensued between the CCD team and the assailants, lasting for about 20 to 25 minutes," it added.

"One person was found seriously injured at the scene. He succumbed to his injuries wheile being evacuated to a local hospital by the CCD team. Later on he was identified as Mr. Khawaja Tareef Butt alias Teefi Butt."

The CCD said that another police official also sustained serious injuries during the exchange of heavy fire. He was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
