The Jaffar Express came under attack after a powerful explosion ripped through the Shikarpur railway line, derailing four bogies and injuring seven passengers. The blast occurred early Tuesday morning.
According to initial reports, four of the injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, while three others were taken to the Civil Hospital in Shikarpur for medical treatment. The incident happened when the train was en route to Quetta from Jacobabad.
Following the explosion, passengers were safely evacuated and transported to nearby stations as repair work on the damaged track began. Shikarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shahzeb Chachar told the media that the blast took place on a single-track section, while the remaining bogies continued their journey.
Police have launched an investigation to trace and apprehend those responsible. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the attack and sought a detailed report from the concerned authorities.
Terrorist assaults on railway lines have frequently occurred in Balochistan as well. In a previous incident, a bomb blast on the Mastung railway track derailed six bogies of a train bound for Peshawar from Quetta. Fortunately, over 300 passengers aboard that train remained unharmed
