Security forces on Thursday thwarted two separate attempts by terrorists to target a girls' school and a bridge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district.

Citing local sources, media reports said that one of the attacks targeted a government girls’ school, where explosives planted by terrorists caused partial damage to the building.

Security personnel responded quickly after the blast and secured the area, preventing further damage.

In a separate incident, terrorists tried to blow up a bridge in the district by placing explosives underneath it to disrupt movement in the area.

The reports said security forces were alerted about the device and rushed to the spot. A bomb disposal unit later defused the explosives before they could go off.

Authorities said nearly 50 kilograms of explosives had been planted under the bridge.

Investigations into both incidents have been launched, while law enforcement agencies have stepped up search and intelligence-based operations to trace those behind the attacks.
