United States President Donald Trump has invited Pakistan to join his proposed “Board of Peace on Gaza”, the Foreign Office said on Sunday.

Responding to media questions, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the invitation had been sent directly to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by the US president.

“Pakistan will remain engaged with international efforts for peace and security in Gaza, leading to a lasting solution to the Palestine issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions,” he added.

Washington is moving into the second stage of Trump’s 20-point peace initiative for Gaza with the Board of Peace.

Trump introduced the peace plan after the territory was devastated by nearly two years of Israeli bombardment.

The US president has already announced that he will serve as chair of the body, while promoting a plan focused on economic development in the Palestinian territory.

On Friday, the US president named Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British prime minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff as members of the panel.

A day later, leaders from Egypt, Turkiye, Argentina and Canada confirmed that they had also been invited to take part in the proposed peace board.
