The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) has declared Friday a national day of thanksgiving and prayer following the landmark defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Addressing a joint press conference with Bishop Azad Marshall, President of the Church of Pakistan, at the Central Cathedral Church in Lahore, PUC Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi said the pact would strengthen the cause of peace and security in the Muslim world.
Calling it “a moment of pride for the entire Pakistani nation,” Ashrafi expressed hope that on September 22, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman would announce further “good news” regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He congratulated Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the armed forces of Pakistan, and Field Marshal for the strategic breakthrough, adding that Pakistan now holds the honor and responsibility of defending the two holy mosques.

“Terrorism has not only targeted mosques but also churches, imambargahs, and innocent civilians. Terrorists kill us because we are Pakistanis. This agreement strengthens our resolve against such threats,” he remarked.
Bishop Azad Marshall echoed Ashrafi’s sentiments, saying Pakistan’s name has been elevated through its commitment to truth and justice, and lauded the armed forces for their proven ability to confront adversaries far greater in size.
