US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday extended warm greetings to Pakistan on the occasion of its 78th Independence Day.
In a statement released by the US Department of State, he said, "On behalf of the United States, I extend our warm congratulations to the people of Pakistan as they celebrate their Independence Day on August 14."
He also acknowledged Pakistan’s engagement with the US on key fronts, particularly counterterrorism and trade. "The United States deeply appreciates Pakistan’s engagement on counterterrorism and trade," Rubio added.
"We look forward to exploring new areas of economic cooperation, including critical minerals and hydrocarbons, and fostering dynamic business partnerships which will promote a prosperous future for Americans and Pakistanis," he added.

Earlier, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that the United States played a decisive role in preventing a major conflict between Pakistan and India during their recent hostilities.
“Obviously, we had an experience with Pakistan and India when there was a conflict, one that could have developed into something quite horrible,” she said at a press briefing.
“I was here at the State Department at the time, and there was immediate concern and immediate movement with the Vice President, the President, and the Secretary of State in addressing the nature of what was happening.”
