Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday commemorated Defence and Martyrs' Day by honouring the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.
"The day of September 6 can never be forgotten. Our young men proved by their eternal sacrifices that wars are not won by weapons but by faith and belief," she said in a video message.
In the video, Punjab's first woman CM also highlighted the unwavering support of the people for Pakistan's armed forces.
"The people are standing by the side of the armed forces and will always stand.
"Today's Pakistan is strong and its defence is invincible by the grace and mercy of Allah Almighty. Today Pakistan is a nuclear power, our army is more confident than ever."
PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif's daughter paid tribute to the 'innocent people' of Occupied Kashmir, who have been facing atrocities by India since 1947.
CM Maryam also mentioned that she met with the families of soldiers, who were martyred in the defence of the country.
Defence and Martyrs’ Day is being observed across the country today to pay homage to the country’s soldiers and the heroes of the 1965 war with arch-rival India.
The special day is observed every year on September 6 in remembrance of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, when Indian forces crossed the international border and launched an attack on Pakistan.
However, Pakistan’s Armed Forces managed to foil the Indian attack with courage and resolve.
The major fighting of the war took place between August and September 1965, with both sides claiming victory after it ended in a stalemate following the intervention of the United States and the Soviet Union.
