Amid the growing use of artificial intelligence worldwide, Italian news platform Il Foglio has made a groundbreaking claim, announcing the production of the world's first newspaper entirely crafted by AI.

This innovative experiment, "Il Foglio AI," aims to demonstrate the impact of AI technology on journalism.

Il Foglio, a conservative liberal daily, launched the initiative after a month-long efforts producing a special four-page publication inserted into the newspaper's broadsheet edition.

According to Editor Claudio Cerasa, this AI-generated newspaper explored how artificial intelligence affects work and daily life.

Cerasa declared Il Foglio AI the world's first newspaper entirely made by artificial intelligence, stating that AI handled "everything. For the writing, the headlines, the quotes, the summaries. And, sometimes, even for the irony".

He added that journalists' roles would be limited to "asking questions [into an AI tool] and reading the answers."

This development comes as news outlets worldwide consider the appropriate use of AI in their publications. The inaugural front page of Il Foglio AI features a captivating story about US President Donald Trump, dubbed the "paradox of Italian Trumpians."

It explored the paradox of Trump supporters who criticise "cancel culture" but often overlook or applaud Trump's behaviour when he acts like the ruler of a banana republic.

Additionally, Il Foglio AI included columns highlighting "20 years of broken promises, torn-up agreements, and words betrayed" by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the headline "Putin, the 10 betrayals."

Notably, The Guardian reported that the articles published in Il Foglio AI were well-structured and straightforward, with no obvious grammatical errors.
