WhatsApp is testing a new quiz feature for channels, allowing administrators to create knowledge-based questions to increase user engagement, according to a report by WABetaInfo.

The feature has appeared in the latest beta versions for iOS and Android and is designed to make WhatsApp channels more interactive. Channel administrators will be able to post multiple-choice questions, with the option to add images to answer choices, making the feature suitable for content related to sports, entertainment, technology and current affairs.

Unlike WhatsApp’s existing poll feature, the quiz requires administrators to select a correct answer in advance, turning it into a knowledge test rather than an opinion survey. Users who choose the correct answer are shown a confetti animation, while administrators can view analytics indicating how many times each option was selected.

The development follows WhatsApp’s recent rollout of new features, including a dedicated Apple Watch app and chat translation tools, as the platform continues to expand its functionality.

According to the report, the amount of information visible to channel administrators will depend on users’ privacy settings. In some cases, only profile pictures may be visible, while names and phone numbers remain hidden.

WhatsApp has not yet announced when the quiz feature will be rolled out to all users.
