OpenAI launches Sora AI video social app for android users

OpenAI has launched its new Sora AI video social app for Android phones, following its earlier release for iOS (Apple devices) a few weeks ago.

Within the first five days of its iOS launch, the app surpassed one million downloads, outperforming the mobile version of ChatGPT in terms of popularity — a trend expected to continue on Google Play Store as well.

Sora is an audio and video generation model capable of creating highly realistic and authentic-looking videos.

Given that 70% of global smartphone users are on Android, Sora features a TikTok-style feed showcasing AI-generated videos created by other users. It also includes a tool called “Kemo,” allowing users to become the stars of their own AI videos.

Initially, the app will be available for Android users in the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. According to the company, work is underway to expand availability to other regions soon.

Sora allows users to generate AI videos based on custom prompts and share them within the app’s social feed.

Originally, the app was invite-only, but it has now been made publicly accessible for a limited time.
