The federal government has announced a proposed allocation of Rs24 billion to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26.

This landmark funding represented a pivotal moment for the nation’s space programme, with Rs600 million specifically designated for Pakistan’s inaugural manned space mission, a project that highlights the country's aspirations in advanced technology.

Official sources indicated that the bulk of the funding, over Rs18 billion, will support the development of the Multi-Mission Communication Satellite System. The initiative aims to enhance the nation’s communication and surveillance capabilities from orbit, paving the way for increased connectivity and security.

The Deep Space Astronomical Project will commence with an allocation of Rs1.8 billion, aimed at broadening the scope of scientific research in distant cosmic regions and deepening our understanding of the universe.

Additionally, Rs1.7 billion has been allocated for the Pakistan Optical Remote Sensing Satellite, an initiative that will enhance Earth observation and resource mapping efforts.

Over Rs500 million will be allocated to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), designed to accelerate investment and spur economic reform.
