The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that internet services across the country have been fully restored after repair work on the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system was completed.
In a statement issued on Friday, the telecom regulator said the technical fault in the undersea cable, which had caused intermittent slowdowns and connectivity issues for users nationwide, has been resolved. Internet traffic has now returned to normal following the completion of restoration work.
The PTA had earlier informed users that the fault along the SMW5 route was affecting international data traffic, resulting in degraded service quality and intermittent connectivity disruptions. During the outage, the authority said Transworld Associates (TWA) worked with the SMW5 Consortium to identify the cause of the fault and restore services.
To minimise disruption, internet traffic was temporarily rerouted through alternate international links while repair efforts were underway.
The regulator said it remained in close coordination with relevant stakeholders throughout the restoration process to ensure the earliest possible resumption of normal services.
