Telegram has rolled out its first update of 2025, introducing a variety of new features aimed at enhancing user experience and security.

Notably, the messaging app has launched a new third-party account verification method, enabling trusted organizations, such as food-quality regulators and educational groups, to verify accounts on the platform.

Accounts verified by these third-party authorities will feature a distinct logo, replacing the traditional blue checkmark.

The initiative is designed to tackle scams and misinformation by adding an extra layer of verification, beyond Telegram’s current system for public figures and organisations.

The process involves a verification application, after which third-party entities can use Telegram's Bot API to assign or remove the verification mark from affiliated accounts. These verified entities will have their logo displayed on associated accounts.

In addition to this, Telegram has introduced a way for users to turn gifts into NFTs, offering custom backgrounds and icons.

These NFTs, which can be purchased with Telegram Stars (available via the app or the Fragment website), can also be traded on various platforms. Telegram noted that users who upgrade their gifts to NFTs will incur blockchain transaction fees.

The update also includes a new emoji reaction feature for service messages, such as when a person joins a group, and improved search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels, making it easier for users to find specific messages.
