Messaging platform WhatsApp suffered a major outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users worldwide unable to send or receive messages on both the mobile app and web version.

According to outage tracking websites, users from several regions, including the United Kingdom, began reporting issues around 3pm local time. Many noted that messages were not delivering, and the web application was unable to connect to servers.

The Meta-owned platform, which has more than two billion active users globally, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or when services are expected to be restored.

Reports of the outage quickly spread on other social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), where users used the hashtag #WhatsAppDown to share their experiences and confirm the widespread nature of the issue.

This is not the first time WhatsApp has faced a service disruption — similar outages have occurred in the past, affecting millions of users worldwide.
