WhatsApp has announced that it will no longer support certain older iOS versions, starting in May 2025, in a move to keep up with evolving technology and provide users with an upgraded experience.
According to WABetaInfo, the popular messaging platform will stop supporting iOS versions earlier than iOS 15.1. Users with devices running iOS versions older than 15.1 will no longer be able to access WhatsApp.
Currently, WhatsApp supports iOS 12 and later, but with the upcoming update, at least iOS 15.1 will be required for basic functionality. Affected devices include older iPhone models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which only support iOS 12.5.7.
WhatsApp is giving users a five-month notice period before the update is rolled out in May 2025, allowing ample time for users to update their devices and save their data.
Users with newer iPhones running on versions below iOS 15.1 will still be able to update their iOS to the latest version and continue using the app without issue.
