WhatsApp has reached a milestone of 200 million monthly business users, but this growth also brings concerns about spam messages.

To address this issue, the platform is introducing new features that enable users to provide feedback on the types of messages they want to receive.

Thew new update will include,  interactive buttons for users to indicate interest or disinterest in specific message categories

Categorization of business messages into marketing, utility, authentication, and service and Granular controls allowing users to stop or resume messages from businesses

According to Nikila Srinivasan, VP of Product Management for Messaging Monetization at Meta, the goal is to provide transparency and control to users.

"We want to give users more preferences to express granularity," she stated.

WhatsApp aims to strike a balance between revenue growth and user experience.

With the platform's significant contribution to Meta's revenue, reaching $434 million in Q3 2024, finding this balance is crucial.

The introduction of user controls and education for businesses will help reduce spam and enhance the overall WhatsApp experience.
