Google's "Year in Search 2024" has unveiled an insightful glimpse into Pakistan's digital preferences, highlighting the nation's affinity for sports, technology, entertainment, and food.
The annual report sheds light on what captivated Pakistani users throughout the year.
Unsurprisingly, cricket dominated search trends, with the ICC T20 World Cup emerging as the most searched topic. Pakistan's cricket enthusiasts also showed keen interest in the PSL 2024 schedule and match-ups. Searches related to star players like Shoaib Malik and Sajid Khan reinforced the nation’s passion for the sport.
Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem gained significant attention for his historic win, bringing Pakistan its first Olympic gold medal in nearly three decades.
Searches for media personalities such as Sana Javed, Zoya Nasir, and Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani reflected public interest in prominent figures. Social media influencers Hareem Shah and Minahil Malik also trended throughout the year.
Entertainment remained a strong focus, with Pakistani dramas like Ishq Murshid and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum gaining popularity.
Bollywood films such as Animal, Dunki, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Stree 2 also attracted considerable attention, alongside shows like Bigg Boss 17 and Mirzapur Season 3.
Food-related searches revealed a diverse culinary interest, ranging from international dishes like banana bread and creamy pasta to local favorites such as malpura and tawa kaleji.
Quick snacks like garlic bread and egg noodles, along with beverages like peach iced tea, showcased the evolving taste preferences of Pakistanis.
The tech category highlighted growing curiosity about AI and smartphones. Tools like Gemini and Remaker AI were frequently searched, while smartphones from brands like Infinix, Redmi, Vivo, and Apple dominated queries.
Practical "how-to" searches ranged from checking polling stations during the election year to creative queries like making flowers last longer. Parenting tips and fitness-related searches, such as starting workouts post-injury, reflected the practical side of users.
Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan, stated, “This year’s ‘Year in Search’ reveals a Pakistan deeply rooted in its traditions while embracing the digital age.
