An attack on the local headquarters of the Sindh Rangers in Karachi's Gulistan-i-Jauhar area on Saturday left four Rangers personnel martyred, while three terrorists were killed during the ensuing security operation.

According to Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the main entrance of the Rangers headquarters before opening fire. Security forces responded swiftly, launching a clearance operation in and around the premises.

The area was sealed off by Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos, the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), police, and Rangers personnel.

One injured Rangers trooper, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, was shifted to hospital for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the exchange of fire had ended and the situation had been brought under control.

Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene after reports of heavy gunfire and an explosion near Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block 5. Special police units, including the Rapid Response Force and commandos, were deployed to secure the area and investigate the nature of the attack.

Rescue 1122 Sindh dispatched emergency teams to the site immediately after receiving reports of the explosion. Senior rescue officials also reached the location to oversee relief efforts.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah sought a detailed report on the incident and directed police officials to ensure a swift response and a thorough investigation. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar also ordered authorities to submit a comprehensive report on the attack.

Karachi has witnessed several major terrorist incidents in recent years. In October 2024, a bombing near Karachi Airport claimed one life and injured 11 others, including foreign nationals. The attack was later claimed by the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), and authorities subsequently arrested suspects linked to the incident.

Earlier, in February 2023, terrorists attacked the Karachi Police Office on Sharea Faisal, triggering an hours-long gun battle involving the Pakistan Army's Special Service Group (SSG), Sindh Rangers, and Sindh Police. The operation resulted in the deaths of all three attackers, while security personnel and civilians also lost their lives.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist violence in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), terrorist attacks increased significantly in May compared to the previous month, highlighting ongoing security challenges across the country.

Authorities continue to investigate the Gulistan-i-Jauhar attack, while security measures have been further strengthened in Karachi.
