Cancer medicines worth Rs360 million were stolen from Karachi's Civil Hospital, sources said on Saturday.

The case was registered on the complaint of Medical Superintendent (MS) Syed Muhammad Khalid at Eidgah Police Station.

In the FIR, the senior health official claimed that the two employees of the hospital sold 76,000 medicine worth Rs360 million.

The complainant said employees identified as Niaz Ahmed Khaskheli and Iqbal Ahmed Channa were found involved in the theft of medications along with other staff members.

He added that between eight months, from Feb 17 to September 19, 2023, the suspects stole and sold at least 7,6000 tablets of Albunox 50mg and Palbunox 125mg.

Corrupt practices of both employees were revealed after the departmental investigation was conducted by the health department, last week.

The health department following inquiry wrote a letter to MS Khalid and informed him that the 16-grade dispensers in charge of the control room in the morning Khaskheli, and 16-grade staff nurse Channa were found involved in the illegal sale of medicine.

It directed the MS of the hospital to remove both staff members from the job and file a complaint against them.

However, following the registration of the case, both suspects fled and police are conducting raids to arrest them.
