A suspect under treatment at a hospital managed to escape custody after allegedly outsmarting police personnel at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital, police said.

According to police, the suspect was involved in a drug smuggling case and was admitted to Surgical Ward No. 9 for treatment.

Sources said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran and Constable Qamar Ali were assigned to guard the suspect; however, due to alleged negligence during duty, the detainee managed to flee.

The case report stated that when senior officers inspected the ward, neither the suspect nor the deployed personnel were present at the location.

Further investigation revealed that a man identified as Adnan Jamil, along with an unidentified individual, allegedly took the suspect out of the ward on a wheelchair and facilitated his escape by placing him in a vehicle.

CCTV footage also reportedly showed the suspect being moved on a wheelchair into a car before fleeing the scene.

Police have registered a case against the two security personnel for negligence and initiated disciplinary proceedings.

Separate cases have also been filed against Adnan Jamil and an unidentified accomplice, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the escaped suspect.
