Education Department issues ban on political involvement and social media use for Govt staff

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has been given official guidelines regarding limitations on the political activities and social media use of government servants.

According to the notification, government workers cannot participate in political rallies, processions, and public meetings, including the use of their position and government status to influence political events.

It further says that it is prohibited for employees to promote, support, or oppose any political party or individual on social media sites despite using their personal accounts.

The department has noted that “failure to comply with these directives will invite Departmental action including disciplinary actions under applicable rules and regulations.”
