The father of Umar Hayat, also known as "Kaka," the prime suspect in the murder of popular content creator Sana Yousaf, has said he finds it hard to believe that his son committed the crime.
Sana Yousaf was shot dead on June 2 in Sector G-13 of Islamabad. The following day, on June 3, Umar Hayat was arrested and, according to police, confessed to the killing during interrogation. He was later sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand for an identification parade.
Recently, several video clipe of Umar Hayat’s father, Amjad, surfaced on social media in which he expressed disbelief over his son’s involvement in the murder.
In one of the clips, Amjad said, “I have two sons and two daughters. Both my daughters are married, and my elder son has passed away.”
He further stated, “I knew nothing about this murder. I didn’t even know my son had any connection or friendship with Sana Yousaf. I only saw in the video that he was seen coming out of Sana’s house. But why he went there, what his relation with her was, or whether he actually shot her, I don’t know. My heart refuses to accept that he could have done this. Only God knows what truly happened.”
Amjad also questioned the validity of the video evidence, saying, “The video is too short. It doesn’t clearly show whether my son actually committed the murder or not. I simply cannot believe that my son killed Sana.”
In a separate interview, he added, “If my son is guilty, he should absolutely be punished according to the law. I demand justice, not just for my son, but for that innocent girl who was killed. No matter who committed the murder, even if it was my own son, I condemn it.”
