Imran Khan has news access but remains frustrated in jail, says scholar Mirza

Religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, who was lately arrested and imprisoned in Adiala Jail in a blasphemy case before getting bail, has already spoken about the manners and lifestyle of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party-founder Imran Khan while he was incarcerated.

Talking to a private tv channel, Mirza has stated that Khan does not have “palace-like” facilities available in prison but has access to headlines from the outside world. He revealed that a former prime minister is provided with two newspapers and an LED tv in his room so that he is updated.

Mirza reported, "Imran Khan was clearly very frustrated in detention, but one would expect nothing but frustration, given the fact that he had spent almost two years in detention before now.”

He said six barracks were assigned for Khan’s stay. These consisted of five for Khan’s personal use and a sixth for Khan’s attendant. As per Mirza, Khan emerged from the barrack twice a day – once at 9 am for breakfast and then at 3 pm for lunch.

Mirza told the court that the food was made with desi ghee by the attendant and that the scent was likely to spread to the rest of the prisoners. Mirza further told the court that Khan spoke very loudly all the time because Khan became angry.

This is happening after Mirza was released on bail by the Rawalpindi Bench, Lahore High Court, in connection with a blasphemy lawsuit filed against him in Jhelum. This was on December 3, 2025, when Mirza was ordered to submit two sureties worth Rs.500,000.
