Acting Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief and opposition leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) City Council Saifuddin Advocate has given Mayor Murtaza Wahab a three-day ultimatum over the worsening water crisis and suspension of water supply in more than half of the city.
Addressing a press conference, Saifuddin Advocate warned that if the water supply does not improve within three days, Jamaat-e-Islami will stage protest demonstrations across the city, including outside the head office of the Water Corporation.
He said Karachi residents are being deprived of drinking water while, on the other hand, the tanker mafia continues to operate under alleged government patronage. He also alleged that water lines are being diverted and illegal connections are ongoing unchecked.
Criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Saifuddin said Karachi has turned into a “city of problems” due to what he termed the party’s 18 years of poor governance. He claimed Karachi now ranks among the country’s worst-hit cities in terms of civic issues.
He alleged that the PPP is the city’s biggest issue at present and accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of standing alongside the PPP in Karachi’s “destruction and decline.”
