Karachi: Defence assault victim pardons accused Salman Farooqi in court

The Defence assault case victim, Sudhir appeared in court today. He identified the accused, Salman Farooqi, who had tortured and abused him following a minor collision at Ittehad Commercial in Karachi's Defence Phase 6.

During the proceedings in the court of Judicial Magistrate South, Sudhir maintained that he did not wish to pursue the case against Farooqi and had pardoned the accused. The court asked the victim if he had faced any pressure, which Sudhir denied. He reiterated that he had no objection to the court's decision.

The police had earlier presented the accused, Salman Farooqi and Owais Hashmi, before the court, which subsequently sent them to jail on judicial remand. The court also directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

During the proceedings, Sudhir told the court that he was previously unaware of being summoned and only appeared after being informed by his lawyer. When asked whether he was under any pressure, Sudhir responded that he had pardoned the accused of his own free will.

The case drew public attention after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The footage captured Farooqi assaulting Sudhir following a collision between a car and motorcycle near Ittehad Commercial in Karachi’s Defence area. Despite pleas from Sudhir’s sisters, who were seen begging with folded hands, Farooqi continued to beat the victim without remorse.

Following public outrage, police arrested the accused and produced them before the court, where they were remanded to jail.
