Karachi police arrest suspect after video of assault on youth in DHA goes viral

The Karachi police have arrested a suspect after a video showing a youth being assaulted in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 6 went viral on social media.

Speaking to the media, victim Ali Jafri said that he did not want anyone else to face what happened to him. He added that his father was a heart patient and that he had no dispute with anyone.

Jafri said that the FIR was delayed because he and his family had received threats. He alleged that a man pointed a pistol at him during the assault.

The victim said that he had gone to DHA Phase 6 with friends for dinner and gaming with his friend Ali Faisal. He alleged that he was forced into a car, taken to another location and assaulted.

He said the suspects repeatedly demanded that he apologise and also asked him for money. He alleged that the suspects used his wallet account to make purchases.

Jafri’s friend said that suspect Ibrahim's parents approached them for a compromise six days after the incident. He claimed that Jafri had not yet disclosed the full extent of the alleged assault and said all details would be included in the FIR.
