Lahore railway station to get modern parking, park facilities

LAHORE: Thousands of passengers traveling through Pakistan Railways will soon be able to enjoy better facilities at the historical railway station in Lahore, as the construction of a modern parking lot and a parallel park is set to begin. The project, which is being aided by the Punjab government, is expected to be completed later this year.

Passengers traveling through the station have long been plagued by queues and traffic jams when arriving at the station, with very few parking spots available.

However, with the completion of the project, hundreds of vehicles will be able to park in the parking lot, which will decrease travel times from hours to mere minutes.

The project will also feature a dedicated bridge and roads that will connect passengers traveling through other parts of Lahore, making travel to and from the station smoother. Passengers will also have a dedicated road that will lead directly to the railway complex, with exit routes designed for easy flow.

Speaking about the project, Deputy Director Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Faisal Shafeeh said, “This project by the Punjab government will be completed within the designated timeline. Parking at Lahore Railway Station will have a capacity for 250 to 300 vehicles, and thousands of passengers will be able to reach the station directly without any obstruction.”

He further added that main roads leading to the station will also be connected through access roads, and passengers arriving in the city only for the railway will use a dedicated bridge for smooth entry. Separate roads are being constructed to facilitate travel to other areas of the city.

Apart from the parking and road development, the interior of the railway station has also been developed. The family lounge and VIP lounge are already operational, offering passengers and their families world-class food and beverage facilities.

After completion, this project will prove to be a great relief for commuters as it will increase the convenience and beauty of the station, making traveling from and to Lahore Railway Station smooth and comfortable.
