The release of the Indian movie Dhurandhar sparked strong criticism from residents of Lyari, who called it a misrepresentation of Pakistan, their neighbourhood, and personalities like Rehman Baloch and Chaudhry Aslam.
Speaking to Dialogue Pakistan, Lyari residents expressed sharp reactions against the film. They call it India’s propaganda for showing Pakistan as a terrorist state, and even call it a self-satisfaction for losing the war against Pakistan.
People also call it a marketing level to use the names of famous Pakistani personalities and take their views.
One resident said, “It’s so absurd. They showed a girl in clothes that no one in Lyari would wear. If they don’t know the real story, they should come and ask us. Rehman Baloch was wrongly portrayed as a terrorist.”
Other residents added: “India has nothing else to show except defaming Pakistan.”The story is completely different; there’s nothing like that in reality. They showed him as being slaughtered, but that’s all false.”
A young woman remarked, “They are just satisfying their own ego after losing wars against Pakistan, portraying our country as a terrorist state. Lyari has been shown only in a negative light.”
Another resident emphasised the true nature of Lyari: “They should come and see what real talent is. Lyari is known for sports, football, boxing, and everything. It’s a hub of talent, not what the movie shows.”
