A sessions court has sentenced a 52-year-old man to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of raping his 18-year-old daughter in Karachi.

The verdict was announced by Additional District and Sessions (East) Judge Naseer Noor Khan.

The court convicted Irfan for committing rape under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code at his residence in the Korangi area in September 2023.

Along with the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs100,000. It ordered that the amount, if recovered, be paid to the victim as compensation in line with Section 17 of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021.

While delivering the sentence, the court noted certain mitigating factors that led to a lesser punishment. These included the absence of any prior criminal record of the accused and shortcomings in the investigation, such as the failure to collect key evidence, including the victim’s clothes.

According to the prosecution, the survivor stated in her testimony that she was moving from the ground floor to the upper portion of the house in the early hours of the day when her father stopped her, dragged her into a room, and assaulted her.

During the trial, the accused denied the charges and claimed that he had been falsely implicated by his wife, who was the complainant in the case.

The case was registered at the Korangi Industrial Area police station under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
