Mentally-challenged girl raped in Punjab's Shakargarh

In a harrowing incident, a mentally and physically challenged girl was raped by a man in Shakargarh city of Punjab, it emerged on Wednesday.

According to police, the incident took place in Sangra area within the jurisdiction of Saddar police station in Shakargarh.

Police said the 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the suspect in her house when all her family members had gone into the fields.

The victim’s father alleged that the suspect trespassed his house and sexually assaulted his daughter.

The suspect fled the scene after committing the heinous crime, according to the law enforcers.

A case was registered against the suspect under section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of the victim's father.

The girl was sent to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) for her medical examination, where the doctors confirmed that she was raped.

Following the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Narowal Nazeer Ahmed Malik tasked the officials to arrest the suspect within 24 hours.
