Mob thrashes robber in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area

A robber was caught and thrashed on by residents of Safari Omega View Apartments in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 13, while his accomplice managed to escape.
The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning.
The enraged mob attempted to set the suspect on fire before police intervened, dispersing the crowd with aerial firing and taking the culprit into custody.
According to reports, the robbers had been carrying out multiple robberies throughout the night in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Their initial attempt to enter Kings Garden failed, after which they successfully infiltrated Omega View Apartments.
The duo had reportedly come from Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13-D area after committing several robberies.
Police recovered 40 mobile phones and weapons from the captured suspect’s possession.
In January, street criminals killed five citizens for resisting a robbery, while on the first day of February, robbers shot and killed a shopkeeper in the Korangi Industrial Area for resisting.
Despite the ongoing bandit rule in the city, police officers claim that there has been a decrease in the number of robberies.
According to the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), over 10,000 motorcycles, including 2,207 (125CC) and 8,515 (70CC) motorbikes in Karachi, in 2024.
In 2024, robbers in the port city snatched 778 motorcycles of a specific 110cc category. According to Geo News, the engines of 110 cc motorcycles are used in boats, which are in demand in the coastal area of Balochistan.
Although Karachi has experienced a gradual decline in street crimes, incidents like these emphasize ongoing challenges. Official data indicated that Sindh saw a 20% reduction in crimes last year.
