ISLAMABAD: An increase in toll tax by 7% on the M-2 Motorway of Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2) has been announced by the National Highway Authority (NHA).

According to the notification released by NHA on Saturday, there will be an increase in the toll rates by 7pc of M-2 Motorway, and the new toll rate will remain applicable up until April 23, 2027.

There will be an increase in the toll due to the concession agreement that has been signed by NHA and Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited (MORE), a subsidiary of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). It has been assigned the task to rehabilitate and upgrade M-2 Motorway.

The revised toll rates of different types of vehicles on the M-2 Motorway are as follows:

Rs1,430 for cars, jeeps and taxis,

Rs2,390 for wagons,

Rs3,350 for coasters,

Rs4,770 for buses,

Rs6,210 for trucks (2- and 3-axle), and

Rs7,980 for articulated trucks

In a development on Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) stayed the implementation of the notification issued by the National Highways Authority (NHA) to collect an extra 50pc toll from motorists on motorways without M-Tag.
