Man divorces wife after she donates kidney to brother

A woman in India's Uttar Pradesh was given triple talaq by her husband after she selflessly donated a kidney to save her brother's life.

Tarannum, a resident of Gonda district, underwent surgery to donate her kidney to her ailing brother, Mohammad Shakir, who was battling kidney failure and receiving treatment in Mumbai.

Her husband Mohammad Rashid, employed in Saudi Arabia, demanded Rs40 lakh from Tarannum following the kidney donation. When she refused, Rashid sent her a triple talaq message on WhatsApp on August 30.

Tarannum and Rashid had been married for 20 years, but Rashid later moved to Saudi Arabia for work.

During their marriage, the couple had no children, and according to Tarannum, Rashid married a second wife.

Post-surgery, Tarannum returned to her in-laws' home in Gonda, where conflicts with her husband escalated, resulting in the triple talaq via WhatsApp.

The woman is now residing with her parents and has taken legal action by filing a police case against her husband.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Radheshyam Rai, confirmed the registration of the case, assuring that necessary actions are being pursued.
