With the recent tragic death of an eight-year-old boy who lost his life after falling into open drainage, the death toll has jumped to 27 this year.
With this latest death, the total number of people who have died this year after falling into open manholes or drains in the city has risen to 27. The victims include young children, girls and adult men.
It may be recalled that just a day earlier, an eight-year-old boy died after falling into a sewer in Korangi’s Mehran Town area.
The child, identified as Dilbar, was playing outside his home when he fell into the open drain. His body was later retrieved by his uncle.
Earlier this month, a three-year-old child who fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was found dead 14 hours later, nearly one kilometre away in a drainage channel.
Both children who died in separate incidents in the Gulshan and Korangi areas were the only children of their respective parents.
