The Lahore police have lodged the First Information Report (FIR) against dozens of miscreants who threatened and harassed a woman for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy in Lahore's Ichhra Bazaar.

The harassment incident came to light on February 25 when videos surfaced on social media, showing a policewoman, Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, addressing an angry mob to remain calm as she safely rescued a girl accused of blasphemy for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy.

According to reports, some shopkeepers defended the girl, providing her shelter in a shop and explaining to the mob that it was merely an Arabic calligraphy print.

Eyewitnesses reported that most of the individuals in the charged mob were either customers, visitors, or passersby.

In the video, the girl, petrified by the fear of violence, can be seen sitting inside a shop, surrounded by the police, as an angry mob outside chanted anti-blasphemy slogans.

However, the girl was saved by the brave ASP Naqvi and her team who timely took action on the matter.

A police official said despite having pressure not to register an FIR against the suspects and avoid possible confrontation with some religious sections, the police have taken the step and booked miscreants involved in the sad incident.

The police high-ups ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against the harassers, with the aim of not letting ‘extremists’ repeat such acts in the future and ensuring the writ of law.

However, no arrests were made yet as the case was referred to the investigation wing of Lahore police for taking further action as per the law.
