Public anger rises as citizens protest negligence over Ibrahim’s death

The protesters expressed strong disappointment with the city administration and chanted slogans against Mayor Murtaza Wahab.

The protest, led by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi’s Deputy Ameer and KMC Opposition Leader Saifuddin Advocate, criticised the government’s inaction and non-serious approach toward managing the city.

A large number of people participated in the protest, holding placards displaying Ibrahim’s pictures and captions, while chanting slogans demanding the resignation of Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab.

“An innocent three-year-old child died, yet the person responsible for this city does not dare to accept that this incident happened because of his negligence,” one protester said, speaking to Dialogue Pakistan.

Another protester said, “We could have saved Ibrahim if we had proper rescue teams and politicians who genuinely cared about our lives.”

A third protester added, “Murtaza Wahab did not even give one genuine statement about the incident, nor did he empathise with Ibrahim’s family.”

Another protester remarked, “Such incompetent politicians are imposed on us—people who don’t even accept responsibility. The Mayor of Karachi is also the chairman of water and sewerage, yet he is blaming others instead of admitting his own failure. He didn’t apologise because he has no regret.”

Another protester said, “This has become the new normal in Karachi—our children fall into manholes and die. Mayor Sahib, if this were your child, it would not be normal. PPP is no longer a political party; it’s all about corruption.”
