Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that attempts are being made to link the alleged abduction and rape case involving foreign women to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Speaking on a private news channel, Rana Sanaullah said the alleged case was being unnecessarily sensationalized and that efforts were being made to turn a "non-issue into an issue."

He claimed that certain elements were trying to drag Ishaq Dar into the matter, adding that every individual is responsible for their own actions and that the issue was being amplified with a specific agenda.

Rana Sanaullah said the statements of the women had already been recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code and that investigators possessed sufficient evidence to prosecute the case.

He said no additional evidence was required to proceed with the trial, as the Section 164 statements were sufficient to help secure convictions. He added that the foreign women could be summoned to testify if necessary.

Commenting on Senator Faisal Vawda's demand for Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar's resignation, Rana Sanaullah described it as "completely baseless."

Earlier, Lahore Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran said the accused's vehicle was involved in an accident while police were searching for the foreign women. According to him, the women exited the vehicle and entered a nearby store, where police subsequently took them into protective custody while the suspect fled the scene.

He said eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
