In a horrific act of gender-based violence, a husband brutally murdered his wife by striking her with a shovel on suspicions of infidelity, police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, he then concealed the crime, which took place on Monday in Rawalpindi, by burying her body in a nearby field.

A first information report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of the deceased woman's father after the dead body and murder weapon were recovered from the accused's house.

The deceased woman was identified as Anum Bibi.

As per the police complaint, the husband, named Nadeem, had been accusing his wife of extramarital affairs for several months. The victim had also told her sisters about this.

Anum's father told the media that Nadeem had informed his in-laws of Anum Bibi's death, claiming it was the result of an accident.

“When we arrived at his house, we discovered that Nadeem had murdered his wife, Anum, with a shovel due to honour. He had tortured her, buried her body somewhere in the village, and then exhumed her body to stage an accident,” Anum’s father said.

The police transported the deceased's body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Nadeem was arrested, and the shovel used in the crime was recovered from him. The accused also confessed to the murder.
