The Rawalpindi police, on Saturday, rejected any news concerning the closing of the markets in the city, calling the claims baseless.
As reported in an official statement released via the social networking site X, the City Police Officer (CPO) of the area, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, said that there were no directives from the Rawalpindi police regarding the closure of markets.
He further stated that all the markets and business centers were functioning normally till 8 pm, as per the government policy.
Furthermore, he stated that arrangements were being made for ensuring proper security in light of the “foreign delegations’ visit.”
On a separate note, Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema too uploaded pictures related to rumors surrounding the closure of hotels and markets.
"This news is fake and has not been released from the district administration. It is recommended that people should ignore rumors," he added.
It is important to highlight that stringent security measures are underway in Islamabad and Rawalpindi because of a likely second round of talks between the US and Iran due to the ongoing war in the Middle East region.
