Man attacks school teacher with acid after her family rejects marriage proposal

A man allegedly threw acid on a female school teacher's face in the Shahdara Town area of Lahore on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Anoosh Masood said that the school teacher suffered burn wounds in the acid attack and was quickly taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

She said that the suspected attacker, Umar Dogar, tried to escape abroad after committing the crime but was arrested by the police at Lahore airport with the help of CCTV footage and phone call traces.

The suspect confessed that he wanted to marry the victim, but her parents rejected his proposal. This made him angry, leading him to attack her with acid, he said.

The police are currently conducting raids to find his accomplice, Ghulam Mustafa.

Earlier, on Jan 6, a 55-year-old woman died in an acid attack in the Gulistan e Johar area of ​​Karachi.

According to the police, two masked men stormed the victim's house and threw acid on her.

They said the woman’s former son-in- law had been extending life threats since her daughter's divorce some six years ago, adding that her daughter locked herself in a bathroom when her former husband barged into their house.
